The 2015 Exhbition & Competition
This years competition evening was slightly different because as a group we are celebrating our fortieth year. So on Thursday evening we had the normal competition evening where all the local art groups are invited and vote to select the best pictures in each category. This years theme was unusual to reflect the unusual, out Ruby anniversary.
On the Friday we had an invitation only night where the Belper Mayor, many local dignitaries and local artists attended and we had a more formal evening with the presentations. It was lovely to have a number of recognised local artists attending and telling us our work was up to standard.
I don't know why but every year one person seems to have more winning pictures than everybody else. It will probably be a differing person every year but.... congratulations Andy it's your turn.
On the Saturday we had an open exhibition where the public were invited and pictures were for sale. The secondary purpose of days like Saturday is to ensure that others know the group exists and this year we were particularly successful in attracting new members.
As a result of the articles in Derbyshire Life, SAA Paint (The Society for All Artists) and the exhibition we have had to move to a larger room and the group is looking very healthy.
Thanks to Albert on the right here for putting together the display about the clubs history which is in the background. He was also a category winner this year and is pictured with another founder and many times winner Ken. Albert often paints in oils and is quite famous for his surrealistic pictures and his onion pictures which are realistic enough to make you want to grab them! Ken mostly paints in Acrylics and his pictures seem to favour the harbour at Whitbay.
Here we have just a few of the Watercolours entered in this years competition. Every year the watercolour category seems to get tougher and more sought after. This year was no exception with a considerable number of pictures vying for the prize, it still hurts that I did not win but that's competition and I'll be back next year to try again..
I suspect this little fella has been to more exhibitions than the rest of us and he is still wielding his paint brush with great vigour!
